Cleansing and Charging Crystal Stones
If you missed this month’s full moon don’t worry, you can still charge your crystals. Crystals will pick up and store negative energies just as easily as positive ones. Clearing this negativity increases their potency making them look brighter and more vibrant. Keeping it simple is always more as it reflects the natural simplicity of your gems. From my own experience do whatever resonates with you and feels comfortable. Sunlight is often recommended to re-energise your gems. Bear in mind that some stones fade in sunlight, namely amethyst, opal and turquoise. I prefer moonlight for this reason. Another popular cleansing technique uses salt and water or crystal sea salt. Please be cautious as crystals are often damaged by salt especially if they are porous or soft. Over time your gems weaken and eventually break as salt residues erode the surface.
The first and most important step in the cleaning process is your intention. Focus and be mindful of what you are trying to achieve. Wash each stone in warm water. Use a natural soap if necessary to remove any residue from previous healings or packaging and handling, especially with new crystals.
Since I use plants to take my product photographs, it makes sense for me to bury my crystals in the flower pot soil. Plants are alive and are highly charged. You can tell from their vibrancy in my photos. I often leave my stones for days buried in the soil. Use your own plants or garden soil, but use markings so you remember where you buried them.
If you don’t have this kind of time my next favourite technique for cleansing and charging crystal stones is Smudging. Incense or sage can be used. Pass your gem through the smoke several times focusing on your intention to cleanse and remove residual energies. Ask your guides or higher power to intercede and provide the cleansing needed. Passing your gem very quickly through the flame of a white candle or running your stone under tepid water is equally effective; however be conscious of damage. You will know when the energy of your crystal changes and feels clean. If you are the lucky owner of large pieces of selenite, amethyst, carnelian or kyanite, these are powerful enough to cleanse smaller stones once they have been fully charged themselves.
During my daily meditations if time permits, I Reiki my crystals by channelling life force energy into the stone. My intention is solely focused as it would be if I was carrying out a healing treatment. I ask God to clear negative and unwanted energy from my crystal so that it can be used for the greater good. I end my prayer in gratitude, thanking God for his help. Prayers are unique and personal according to your beliefs, so do whatever feels comfortable. Sit in a quiet place and ground yourself by focusing on your breath. Visualise a white or rainbow light flowing from your Third Eye chakra into your crystal. Repeat your prayer or your intention until your gem feels clean and energised. If you have a singing bowl, prayer bells or a gong, this can also be used at this point for cleansing and charging crystal stones
